Chairman
Bruce A. Percelay has established himself as both a respected figure in the real estate industry, as well as a prominent nonprofit leader in Massachusetts.
Percelay began his career in the world of marketing where he served as an account executive at the advertising agency, HBM/Creamer. There, he was involved in the marketing of Parker Brothers Games, Keds Sneakers, Converse Athletic Shoes and personally developed the concept for Sunkist Orange Soda.
Percelay then segued into real estate and joined the firm of Leggat Mccall as Director of Marketing having worked on Copley Place, 53 State Street, and some of Boston’s largest developments.
Percelay combined his in-depth knowledge of marketing and real estate to formulate a book called Packaging Your Home for Profit which became the basis for “staging” homes for sale and made the list of the top-selling business books in Boston.
After a national media tour for his book, Bruce established the Mount Vernon Company in 1985 which would apply his marketing-driven approach to residential and multi-family properties. The company grew from 5 individual condominium units to a portfolio including over 2,000 apartments, hotels, retail and commercial properties.
The company has won virtually every industry award for the quality of its service and is considered one of the premier privately held real estate investment companies in the region.
One of the company’s signature projects was The Green District in Allston, which was the first major new development in the area in over half a century and was, at the time, the most environmentally advanced project on the East Coast.
After achieving success in the multi-family sector, the Mount Vernon Company has begun to establish itself as a player in the boutique hotel business with properties located on Nantucket, Boston, Camden, Maine, and beyond. Conde Nast Traveler named MVC’s first Nantucket hotel as the best in the world and also recognized two other of its properties as the Best New Hotel in America and the Best New Hotel in Boston. The Revolution Hotel, located in the city’s South End, is one of the top-performing hotels in Boston and has received recognition for its innovative design.
Percelay is the founder and publisher of N Magazine in Nantucket, which is considered one of the highest-quality lifestyle publications in America and the leading magazine on the island. Percelay also created the Nantucket Current, which is a digital newspaper that is the dominant news source on the island. Percelay has received numerous awards from the New England Press Association for his writings in N Magazine and for the magazine as a whole.
Percelay, since the founding of MVC, has been deeply involved in nonprofit work in Boston and Nantucket, having served in leadership roles in each organization. Percelay was Chairman of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Habitat for Humanity, where he oversaw the dramatic growth of each organization. Percelay was the driving force behind the building of the new Nantucket Whaling Museum and led a $120-million-dollar capital campaign to build the new Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Percelay has served on the Board of the Rappaport Institute, The Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, won the John M. Connors leadership award at Mass General, received a Special Accommodation for his leadership that appears in the U.S. Congressional Record, is the name behind the Percelay Philanthropy Award at NCH, among numerous other recognitions.
Percelay is currently building an organization called Nourish Nantucket designed to solve the food insecurity problem on the island. Bruce currently serves as Chairman of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate, an organization dedicated to bipartisanship and civics education, which includes a board of 8 former US Senators and 2 Congressmen.
