140 Clarendon Street Boston, MA

140 Clarendon was an idea conceived of by The Mount Vernon Company to offer affordable units in one of Boston’s best neighborhoods. Located behind the Hancock Building, adjacent to the Raffles Hotel, the project involved a complete renovation of the old YWCA into a high-quality affordable living environment.

Along with Beacon Communities, the partnership completed the Back Bay’s largest affordable development with over 200 fully renovated rooms for Boston’s neediest population, as well as providing a permanent home for the Lyric Theater and other local nonprofits.

The building was referred to by the Boston Globe as the “Miracle on Clarendon Street” and stands as a leading example of public/private partnerships in the City of Boston.
