The Revolution Hotel - 2021 Hospitality Design Award

Project overview: The Revolution Hotel redefines the boundaries of where urbanites meet, stay, eat, work and socialize. This adaptive reuse project met the challenge of converting a historic YWCA dormitory into a modern boutique hotel that also hosts a restaurant, café, community co-working space and street level, walk-up coffee window.

Project location: Boston, Massachusetts

Firm name: PCA, Inc. (PCA)

Project type: Hotel; Coworking space

Project information: Adaptive reuse, Renovation/restoration

Jury comments: The midcentury modern YWCA has been transformed into a vibrant, eclectic, and energetic space. We appreciate the interventions on the façade that create visibility into the building and activate the streetscape with a new public courtyard. Community involvement is evident in the design. The coworking space, art gallery, and performance venue invite the community in to share the hotel’s amenities. For guests, the mix of guest room sizes, with triple and quad options, offers choice and affordability. The partnership with local artists and makers and the eclectic mix of decorative typologies make the spaces lively and inviting.
