Boston, MA The Mount Vernon Company has completed construction of the Radius Apartments, a 132 unit multifamily community located at 530 Western Avenue in Brighton, MA. The building will earn green building certification through LEED Multifamily Midrise v2010. LEED is a comprehensive certification program that takes a holistic view of building sustainability, including low impact site and landscaping; water efficiency; energy efficiency; low-impact and healthy materials; and high indoor air quality. Features specific to 530 Western Ave include:
- Landscaping / plantings with low water demand
- High-reflectance roof to reduce the heat island effect
- Bicycle storage and Electric Vehicle charging stations
- High efficiency water fixtures (showerheads, bathrooms, toilets)
- An efficient exterior envelope to reduce heat loss and unwanted air infiltration
- Flooring and finishes with low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Ventilation systems designed to limit indoor contaminants and provide fresh air to each apartment
- A high level of recycling of construction waste
- Construction practices meant to limit erosion of soil and dust pollution
